The ERCE is open to all types of clean energies with a special interest in technologies suitable for the tropical regions, particularly: solar and solar-thermal applications, biomass, hydro and wind energies. The centre is fostering research in different areas of renewable energy that utilises researchers from multidisciplinary backgrounds including: mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering as well as science and social sciences.
